Uniglobe Asphalt Mixing Plant
Explanatory Animation

Ammann is one of the world's leading manufacturers of road construction machinery, selling asphalt mixing plants to customers across the globe. The challenge was to explain the internal workings of their Uniglobe plant in a way that was technically precise yet accessible to a broad international audience — and compelling enough to work as a marketing tool at the same time.

The CAD data provided for the plant posed an additional technical challenge: the files were too complex and insufficiently detailed for direct use in 3D animation software. Extensive manual work was required before a single frame could be rendered.

We chose a narrative device that immediately creates engagement: the entire 4-minute explanatory film is told from the perspective of a single stone — following its journey through every stage of the Uniglobe asphalt mixing process. This "stone's-eye view" transforms a complex industrial workflow into an intuitive, memorable story.

The CAD models were thoroughly cleaned, stripped of unnecessary geometry, supplemented with missing mechanical details that we modelled manually, and then assembled into a complete, animatable plant model. Before animation began, alignment sessions were held to verify that every component was correctly positioned.

A full storyboard and script were developed to define the animation sequence, camera movements, and didactic structure. After animation, the film was scored with music and professionally voiced in multiple languages — reflecting Ammann's worldwide sales reach.

The project grew beyond the Uniglobe: additional Ammann plant types were later animated in the same visual style, complemented by a large series of technical illustrations and eventually content for an interactive application.

A multi-language explanatory animation series that makes the inner workings of complex industrial machinery understandable at a glance. While the visual style reflects the production standards of the late 2000s, the project remains a strong example of how well-structured didactic animation can communicate technical complexity clearly — an approach that continues to define our work today.
